When gardening in an area filled with drought, it is sometimes easier to stop gardening, because the long days and increased temperature can be hard on the plants, especially when they can not have water. However, this does not mean you should let go of the beautiful landscape you have created. Learning how to conserve moisture and maintain the landscape can help you create a more beautiful garden that requires less water than you think. 

Water Plants at the Right Time

If you water the plants at the right time, it is possible to reduce the amount of water that is required by your lawn and garden without letting go of its beauty. Up to 40 percent of water used in landscaping are actually wasted, but if you water in the right way and at the right time, you can ensure that the plants survive the drought. The ideal time to water in hot weather is in the morning between the hours of 6 and 10 a.m. This allows the water to soak deeply into the ground and not evaporate.

You can reduce the needs of your plants by planting drought-tolerant plants. They are designed to conserve water and thrive in harsh climates. These plants have small needles or leaf areas as well as other features that help it to conserve. Several areas also provide restrictions concerning the frequency with which you can water your lawn during the hot summer, which is why these plants are necessary. Examples of these plants include sunflower, begonia, columbine, coyote brush, California buckeye etc.

With a little preventative gardening, you could reduce the amount of moisture lost and reduce the amount of time you spend in the hot sun, and yet, maintain your landscape. The following tips help to conserve water:

Apply Mulch. Organic mulch is essential if you want to induce the roots of plants against heat and conserve moisture.
